On Tuesday, September 17, 2019, our brother Friar Elvio Saúl CABELLO CORSO professed his solemn vows. Friar Elvio is a member of the Provincial Delegation in Peru, which belongs to the Province of St. Anthony and Bl. James of Strepar in Poland (Cracow). The ceremony took place at the Señor de Mayo Church in Pariacoto, Peru.
The celebration was attended by the friars of the Delegation, friends and relatives of Friar Saúl, hundreds of people from Peru and abroad, along with many faithful from the other parishes under the pastoral care of the friars, namely parishes in Chimbote, Lima and a new presence in Trujillo. The Choir of the Franciscan Martyrs of Pariacoto sang and animated the celebration. The choir has been preforming liturgical music for the last thirty years.
Friar Dariusz MAZUREK, the Provincial Delegate in Peru, presided over the celebration and received Friar Saúl’s vows. In his homily, Friar Dariusz spoke about the meaning of vocation, religious consecration, and the choices necessary to place the offering of one’s life in the hands of God, who gave us life, chose us, guides us and protects us.
The Conventual Franciscans have been present in Peru for more than thirty years. They continue to respond to the great pastoral needs in this difficult and complex Latin American setting. The solemn Profession of Friar Saúl represents a fundamental moment in this work of God, who seeks to give life and hope to all men.
Friar Saúl was born in Yaután, Peru. He professed his temporary vows on February 7, 2011. The Señor de Mayo Church is where the mortal remains of the Blessed Martyrs, Friars Zbigniew STRZAŁKOWSKI and Michał TOMASZEK are enshrined.
