Project No. 17/2026 –
Purchase of a Toyota Hiace
(Minibus for the Formation House in Morogoro, Tanzania)

The Provincial Custody of St. Maximilian M. Kolbe in Tanzania, belonging to the African Federation of Conventual Franciscans (AFCOF) of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual, has proposed Developing Self-Sustainability Project No. 17/2026, entitled, “Purchase of a Toyota Hiace (minibus for the Formation House in Morogoro” aimed at supporting and strengthening the formation activities of young student friars in Tanzania.

The project stems from the concrete needs of the Formation House for Theology Studies in Morogoro, a new facility within the Custody that has been operational for two years. It accepts student friars primarily from the Jurisdictions of the AFCOF Federation. The formation community currently consists of eighteen student-friars and three formators. By October of 2026, this number will rapidly increase to nearly thirty or more men in formation.
The initiative aims to facilitate the travel of young students in the Kola-Morogoro region, located in central-eastern Tanzania. The constant rise in the number of students, the needs of the external apostolate, weather difficulties during the rainy season, the distance from the university, and the need for community travel from one place to another, makes purchasing a suitable vehicle to serve the formation community increasingly urgent.
The project involves the purchase of a fifteen-seat Toyota Hiace, model year 2026, from Japan. The purchase will be made via an invoice issued by BEGECA Logistics, based in Aachen, Germany. Due to the high taxes in Tanzania, the responsible entity will request tax exemption from the Tanzanian government, thus reducing import costs and promoting the economic sustainability of the initiative.
Having the minibus will ensure greater safety and stability for friars in formation who must travel, facilitate participation in academic and pastoral activities, and contribute to strengthening the fraternal and formational life of the Custody. The vehicle will also provide valuable support for the logistical and pastoral needs of the Franciscan presence in the area.

The project is currently in the fundraising and implementation phases.
