Project No. 40/2025 – Establishment of Commercial Egg Production Poultry Farms
(Saltpond, Sunyani and Ejisu, Ghana)

The Provincial Custody of St. Anthony of Padua in Ghana of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual has proposed Training and Self-Sufficiency Project No. 40/2025, entitled “Establishment of Commercial Egg Production Poultry Farms.” The project aims to establish three poultry farms for egg production at the Custody’s formation houses in Saltpond, Sunyani, and Ejisu, Ghana.

This initiative seeks to strengthen the financial self-sufficiency of the Custody’s formation houses while providing practical vocational training for friars in formation. The project will be implemented at three Conventual Franciscan communities: the postulancy program in Sunyani, the novitiate in Saltpond, and the post-novitiate (house of theology studies) in Adanse Kwabre, near Ejisu―all of which accommodate large, stable communities of friars and candidates preparing for religious life.
Ghana’s economy continues to rely heavily on agriculture, particularly in rural communities and on the outskirts of towns and cities. Poultry products―and eggs in particular―are widely consumed and are an important local market commodity. Establishing these three poultry farms will enable the Conventual Franciscan communities to produce a significant portion of their own food requirements, thereby reducing operating expenses and allowing the resulting savings to be redirected toward the formation of young friars and other activities of the Custody.
Beyond its financial benefits, the project has a clear educational dimension. The friars in formation will be involved in managing the farms and will gain practical skills, a sense of responsibility, and familiarity with hands-on work, with a view toward self-sufficiency and the responsible management of resources. The three communities are also located in areas conducive to the development of poultry farming, thanks to the availability of adequate space and the steady demand for eggs from families, schools, and local markets.
This initiative is part of the Custody’s commitment to sustainable development by promoting hands-on work, vocational training, and financial self-sufficiency in its houses of formation. Egg production will not only help support the religious communities involved but will also serve as a stable source of income through the sale of surplus eggs on the local market.

The project is currently seeking the funds necessary for its implementation.
