On October 11-13, 2019, the Militia of the Immaculate (M.I.) held an Ordinary Elective Assembly at the Seraphicum College in Rome. The Assembly sanctioned something new which the Holy See had strongly desired, namely, to offer the role of President of the M.I. to a layperson. This is because, since 1997, the Church has recognized the M.I. as an “International Public Association of the Faithful”.

Thus, the International Militia of the Immaculate has a new president, Angela MORAIS, a faithful Brazilian layperson. Friar Raffaele DI MURO shall continue his service to the Association as the Delegate of the Minister General.
The Presidential Council of the International M.I. is now comprised of the Vice-President Miguel BORDAS (Spain); and Councilors Margherita PERCHINELLI (Italy); Norma Magdalena Sanchez (Mexico); John GALTEN (USA); and Friar Tomasz TĘGOWSKI, OFM Conv. (Poland). The members of the M.I. government are predominantly laypersons representing as many as six different countries. The work of the Assembly began and ended with messages expressing the best wishes and support of the Minister General (and M.I. International Assistant) Friar Carlos Alberto TROVARELLI.
The Ordinary Elective Assembly concluded with Mass presided over by the Secretary General, Friar Tomasz SZYMCZAK.
Best wishes for the successful work of the M.I. government as it prepares to take up the challenges facing the Church and contemporary society while following in the footsteps of St. Maximilian Kolbe.

Friar Raffaele DI MURO
