On Thursday, July 1, 2021, the Minister General, Friar Carlos TROVARELLI, together with his Definitory, elected Friar Igor SALMIČ as the new Assistant General for the Centralis Europae Foederatio (CEF).

On Friday, January 8, 2021, the Holy See officially announced that Pope Francis had appointed our confrere, Friar Dominique MATHIEU, as Archbishop of Teheran-Ispahan of the Latins, Iran. On February 16, Friar Dominique was ordained a bishop in the Basilica of the Twelve Holy Apostles in Rome.
Friar Dominique had previously been serving as the Order’s Assistant General for the CEF Federation. Therefore, in keeping with the Constitutions, the General Definitory elected Friar Igor SALMIČ to this office. Friar Igor was serving as the Minister Provincial of the Province of St. Joseph in Slovenia. He has accepted his election and will start his new office starting July 5, 2021.
Friar Igor SALMIČ must leave his service as Minister Provincial. He will be replaced by the Vicar Provincial, Friar Slavko STERMŠEK, who will retain the title of Vicar until the next Ordinary Provincial Chapter.
Friar Igor was born in Ljubljana, Slovenia, on August 3, 1979. He made his simple profession on September 9, 2001, his solemn profession on September 24, 2005, and was ordained to the priesthood on June 29, 2007.
