On October 7-11, 2019, the Province of St. Maximilian M. Kolbe in Brazil held the first part of its 5th Ordinary Provincial Chapter. The Chapter was celebrated in the auditorium of the Franciscan Center for Education and Culture (CFEC) in Brasilia, Brazil. Forty-eight friars from the Province participated along with some invited friars from other Jurisdictions.
The Chapter was presided over by the Minister General, Friar Carlos TROVARELLI. The Assistant General for the Federación América Latina Conventuales (FALC), Friar Rogério PEREIRA XAVIER, was also present. Those attending from other Jurisdictions in Brazil included the Custos of the Provincial Custody of the Immaculate Conception of the B.V.M., Friar Ronaldo GOMES DA SILVA; and the Custos of the Provincial Custody of St. Bonaventure, Friar Mafra Clevis DOS SANTOS.
The work of the Chapter included hearing reports on the past four years, in particular the reports of the Minister Provincial and the Provincial Econom.
On Thursday, October 10, Friar Gilberto DE JESUS RODRIGUES was elected the new Minister Provincial. Friar Gilbero had been the Pastor at the Santuário São José Friary in Niquelândia, State of Goiás, Brazil. He was born in Santana, State of Bahia, Brazil, on September 30, 1972. He made his simple profession on February 1, 1997, his solemn profession on October 13, 2001, and was ordained to the priesthood on December 6, 2003.
On October 10, the members of the Definitory were elected. They are Friars Paulo Geovani LEITE NORONHA, Provincial Secretary; Flávio FREITAS DE AMORIM, Vicar Provincial; and Stanisław OCETEK, Josué PEREIRA DE SOUSA and Israel Fernando DA SILVA SOBRINHO, Definitors.
