On May 10, 2022, the Provincial Custody of St. Daniel and Companion Martyrs in Italy (Calabria) celebrated an Extraordinary Chapter to address the issue of suppressing a friary.

The Chapter took place at the Sacro Cuore di Gesù Friary in Catanzaro Lido, and was convened and presided over by Friar Gaspare LA BARBERA, the Minister Provincial of Province of St. Agatha and St. Lucy in Italy (Sicily). The friars of the Custody participated, along with the Assistant General for the Federazione Intermediterranea Ministri Provinciali (FIMP), Friar Giovanni VOLTAN, and the Procurator General, Friar Maurizio DI PAOLO, who was elected in the assembly as the Chapter Moderator.
On Tuesday, May 10, the friars gathered at the San Francesco hall to vote on suppressing the San Bernardino da Siena Friary in Amantea, Italy, in keeping with the indications set forth in the Decree of the Minister General for the implementation of Motion No. 15 of the 2019 General Chapter on unification of Southern Italy.
After discussion and debate in the Chapter hall, the friars voted to suppress the aforementioned friary. It was a painful decision for them all.
As always, the Chapter was both a time of fraternal exchange and a period of grace, because it gave the friars an opportunity to look toward the future with hope and faith in the Risen Christ.
