On November 2, 2024, the day the Church commemorates our departed brothers and sisters, the friars of the La Vigna Friary in Rome visited the Catacombs of Sant’Agnese to pray for the deceased. The Catacombs of Sant’Agnese is one of the six catacombs in Rome that are open to the public.

After praying the Office of Readings and Morning Prayer in the friary, the friars went to the catacombs. They were given a guided tour of the site. Afterwards, they celebrated Mass in the Basilica of Sant’Agnese, which was also attended by some lay faithful. The Guardian of the La Vigna community, Friar Germano TOGNETTI, presided.
The creation and subsequent expansion of this underground cemetery are linked to the martyrdom of young St. Agnes, who was buried here in the early 3rd century A.D. Her veneration is attested to in the earliest records concerning Roman martyrs, and her cult was among the most widespread in early Christian Rome.
For our deceased brothers and sisters: Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let Your perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace!
