On September 22-26, 2024, the Province of St. Maximilian M. Kolbe in India conducted its annual spiritual retreat. The event took place at the Assisi Shanthi Kendra Friary and Provincial Curia in Karukutty, Kerala State, India. Twenty-eight friars attended this year’s retreat; most of whom serve in Kerala.
Friar Jonath CAPUCHIN, OFM Cap., led the meditations. He is a well-known orator and an author of Malayalam spiritual literature in Kerala. His reflections focused on essential aspects of priestly and religious life that are gradually being lost. Through engaging stories, personal experience, and relatable anecdotes, Friar Jonath went beyond theological and philosophical insights to offer practical wisdom that resonated deeply with the participants.
The retreat unfolded in a serene and welcoming environment at the Curia, making it easier for everyone to engage in prayer and personal reflection. The participants described the experience as a profoundly simple and heartwarming Franciscan meditation. It gave all of the friars an opportunity to reevaluate their lives in the light of their vocation.
This annual spiritual retreat served as a crucial time of renewal and discernment for the friars of the Province. It helped them remain grounded in their spiritual and communal commitments.
