On March 1-4, 2020, the Province of St. Francis of Assisi in Kenya held a workshop for Guardians and Friary Economs at the Peace and Reconciliation Center in Subukia, Kenya.
Speakers at the workshop included the Minister Provincial, Friar Obed Muriungi KAROBIA; the Vicar Provincial, Friar Francis Mbugua KANYIRI; and finally, the former Provincial Custos and current Guardian of Subukia, Friar Kazimierz SZULC. Friar Kazimierz shared his rich experience as a Superior with the leaders of the Province and talked about the challenges a Superior inevitably encounters.
During his presentation, the Minister Provincial, Friar Obed, acknowledged that in the new Province, the friars have shown a positive attitude towards achieving the objectives that were set. He emphasized the power of good communication, observing that where communication is hindered by pessimism or communication barriers, the life of each community is negatively influenced and consequently the community lacks growth.
The Vicar Provincial, Friar Francis, talked about the life of minority and fraternity as being pillars of our Franciscan identity. He stressed that minority, as understood by St. Francis of Assisi, is not something optional but a constitutive element of our life and mission and a place of meeting and communion with God and with our brothers.
