On March 26, 2026, the Holy Father appointed our confrere Friar Obed Muriungi KAROBIA as Auxiliary Bishop of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Nairobi, Kenya.

Friar Obed Muriungi belongs to the Province of St. Francis of Assisi in Kenya. He was born on June 29, 1979, in Meru, Kenya. He made his simple profession on July 24, 2004, and his solemn profession on October 10, 2010. He was ordained a deacon on May 21, 2011, and a priest on July 28, 2012. He served as the first Minister Provincial of the Province of Kenya (2019-2023).
The Metropolitan Archdiocese of Nairobi is led by the Most Reverend Philip Arnold SUBIRA ANYOLO, Metropolitan Archbishop. It has many pastoral settings, among them more than 125 parishes distributed across various deaneries, with approximately 255 priests engaged in pastoral ministry and a wide network of active Christian communities in a continuously growing urban context.
Friar Obed receives our warmest congratulations for the Holy Father’s trust in him, along with our best wishes for a fruitful and grace-filled episcopal ministry, which will begin with his episcopal ordination.
