On Sunday, October 27, 2019, the Most Reverend Emil Paul Tscherrig, Apostolic Nuncio to Italy, imposed the Archiepiscopal Pallium upon the Most Reverend Roberto CARBONI, OFM Conv., the newly elected Archbishop of Oristano, Italy.
In the Catholic tradition, this ancient liturgical vestment is a sign of deep communion with the Pope. The Archbishop wears it while he carries out his mission as pastor of the flock entrusted to his pastoral care.
Archbishop Carboni was promoted to the Metropolitan See of Oristano in July of 2019. On June 29, 2019, Pope Francis conferred the sign of the blessed pallium upon him during the celebration of the feast of Saints Peter and Paul in the Vatican Basilica. Since 2014, protocol has specified that the Apostolic Nuncios shall impose the pallium in the Dioceses of residence, to better involve the faithful and the local presbytery.
Archbishop Carboni expressed his thanks to the Pope through the Nuncio representing him. The Archbishop highlighted his obligation to carry out missionary action in communion with the Apostolic See. Next, he invited the numerous faithful present to offer prayer for the mission entrusted to him, a mission so effectively symbolized by the pallium.
