On September 18, 2021, our confrere, Friar Isidoro Liberale GATTI, was made an honorary citizen of the Municipality of Montalto delle Marche, Italy, for his studies on Pope Sixtus V, otherwise known as Friar Felice PERETTI, OFM Conv. Pope Sixtus V was born five hundred years ago in Montalto delle Marche. Friar Isidoro received the award at the Casa Padre Kolbe Center in Pedavena, Italy.

“To the Reverend Father Isidoro Liberale GATTI, historian and author, for his accurate and enlightening research on the great Pope Sixtus V, and for reassociating the Peretti family with Montalto and Piceno.” Thus began the document explaining the reasons for this honor. The award recognized the scientific commitment of Friar Isadoro, a member of the Italian Province of St. Anthony of Padua (Northern Italy).
The Mayor of Montalto Marche, Daniel MATRICARDI, presented the award parchment, together with the City Councilor and former Mayor, Raffaele TASSOTTI. Others taking part in the event included the Director of the Casa Padre Kolbe Center, Dr. Roberta BORTOLUZ; the Mayor of Pedavena, Nicola CASTELLAZ; Friar Giuseppe FRANCO, Guardian of the Pedavena Friary; and the Minister Provincial of Northern Italy, Friar Roberto BRANDINELLI.
Friar Isidoro was born on June 24, 1934, in Vassena di Oliveto Lario, Italy. He made his simple profession on September 8, 1953, his solemn profession on October 4, 1958, and was ordained to the priesthood on March 13, 1965. After earning his doctorate in ecclesiastical history, Friar Isidoro served as a professor and published many historical studies, especially those on events within the Order of Friars Minor Conventual.
