On Monday, November 25, 2019, a contract was signed with the Archdiocese of Trujillo, Peru, entrusting the pastoral care of the Parish of Santa Lucia de Moche to the Friars Minor Conventual. The church is located in the Moche district of the City of Trujillo, Peru.
The Most Reverend Héctor Miguel CABREJOS VIDARTE, OFM, Archbishop of Trujillo, represented his Curia while Friar Marian GOŁĄB the Minister Provincial of the Province of Saint Anthony and Blessed James of Strepar in Poland (Cracow) represented the friars.
Others participating in the signing of the contract included the Provincial Delegate in Peru, Friar Stanisław OLBRYCHT, the Secretary General for Missionary Animation (SGAM), Friar Dariusz MAZUREK, and two confreres from Peru, Friars Jorge Alberto CARTAGENA GUERRA and Rafael Martín ARÉVALO FARFÁN.
The friars’ acceptance of the Parish is also an expression of gratitude for the gift of the beatification of our martyrs, Friars Michał TOMASZEK and Zbigniew STRZAŁKOWSKI.
The signed agreement lasts for ten years. It provides that the friars shall carry out pastoral service in the parish and manage the Jose Emilio Lefebvre Parish School.
The confreres had already begun pastoral activity in Moche as early as April of 2019. The parish is located in the outskirts of Trujillo and has about 30,000 people across a large territory. In addition, the parish territory contains three chapels, the diocesan seminary, the Faculty of Theology and the Catholic University.
The religiosity of the faithful is mainly characterized by popular piety expressed in the cult of saints and in belonging to various confraternities (there are twenty-nine different groups in the parish).
Trujillo is the fourth Conventual presence in Peru after Pariacoto, Lima and Chimbote.
