Renewable Energy (Prajești, Romania)
The Province of St. Joseph, Spouse of the B.V.M. in Romania, of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual, has proposed Self-Sustainability Project No. 01/2025, entitled, “Renewable Energy,” aimed at reducing energy costs at the friary in Prajeşti through the adoption of sustainable heating solutions.
The project came about in response to current economic difficulties that are also affecting the day-to-day management of the local church communities in the Province. In Prajești, in particular, the cold season may last six months out of the year, leading to a significant increase in heating costs and placing a strain on the budget of the religious community.
The friary in Prajești houses the friars of the community, along with postulants and young men exploring their vocation, fulfilling an important formative and pastoral role. However, high utility costs pose a real challenge to the continuity and development of these activities.
To address this issue, the project involves the implementation of renewable energy solutions aimed at reducing consumption and improving the building’s energy efficiency, thereby fostering greater economic stability and supporting fraternal life and the formation process.
In addition, the initiative represents a concrete sign of caring for creation, which will also help to strengthen the self-sustainability of the Province.
