The Pontifical Theological Faculty of St. Bonaventure (Seraphicum) in Rome is promoting an advanced formation course entitled “Fratelli tutti,” like Pope Francis’ Encyclical. The course will to go to the heart of fraternity in all its ecclesiological, theological, social, political and economical forms.
This course will be launched at the start of the new academic year. It will involve the collaboration of organizations that are actively involved in the field, such as the Sant’Egidio Community, and the “Economy of Communion Project”.
The study of “Fratelli tutti” will be covered in three units. The course will begin with introductory lessons from Friar Ugo SARTORIO, a Conventual Franciscan theologian and journalist. This will provide an overview of the richness of the document and go on to examine specific topics in greater depth. Next, we will next focus on its aspects which relate to ecclesiology. We will highlight the viewpoints on fraternity and on the vision of the Church as expressed by Pope Francis, by his encyclical and, more generally, by his magisterium.
This will be followed by a section on religions with collaboration from experts in the field of interreligious dialogue, in order to analyze the “BERGOGLIO method” in dialogue with other faiths. Then, we will move on to the political-economic sphere, to examine what Pope Francis suggests to the Church and to humanity in terms of politics and economics.
The course will be offered online and in person, every Tuesday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., for a total of 120 hours, starting October 5, 2021, through May 31, 2022. Students are obligated to attend at least two thirds of the lessons. At the end of the course, students must submit a thesis paper in order to obtain their certificate of attendance.
Friar Raffaele DI MURO, Dean and the Director of this initiative, explains: “By means of this advanced formation course, the Faculty intends to develop themes that are very dear to Pope Francis and very important from a human, social and ecclesial point of view. The pope’s vision of the Church clearly emerges from his encyclical. In it, we see the link between religions and we see a program for sustainable politics and economy.”
