The Province of St. Elizabeth in Hungary and Transylvania has been suppressed and incorporated into the Province of St. Maximilian M. Kolbe in Poland (Gdańsk).

The suppression of the Province of St. Elizabeth in Hungary and Transylvania goes into effect on October 28, 2018, by decree of the Minister General, Friar Marco Tasca, OFM Conv. The four friaries and eleven confreres belonging to the Province shall now come under the jurisdiction of the Province of St. Maximilian M. Kolbe in Poland (Gdańsk).
After listening to the Ministers Provincial of Hungary and Gdansk and having obtained the unanimous consent of the General Definitory, along with the approval of the Congregation for Religious, the Minister General had to reluctantly acknowledge that it was impossible to keep the Province of Hungary and Transylvania open. Therefore, he issued the Decree.
After implementing the prerequisites indicated by the 2013 Extraordinary General Chapter, this choice will serve as a path to revitalize the Order’s presence in Hungary and Transylvania.
All the friars of the Order are invited to pray and support these confreres who are certainly going through a difficult time. Let us entrust ourselves to the Providence of the Father who can certainly create a future of joy and renewed enthusiasm out of this situation.
