On Wednesday, August 2, 2023, the Feast of Our Lady of the Angels―Portiuncula, nine postulants were vested in the Conventual Franciscan habit and began their canonical year as novices at the San Damiano Novitiate in the Garneton suburban area, Itimpi ward, Kitwe, Zambia.
Six came from Zambia: Kelvin NGOMA, Martin MAMFUNDA, Moses MWEWA, Chabu CHIBUYE, Patrick Mwila KATEBE and Nkisu CHIFUNDA. Three came from Kenya: Polycarp Ochieng ONGINJO, Linus Ombongi OBWORO and Noah Kipkemoi KIRUI. The vesting ceremony took place in the Church of St. Anthony of Padua at the Franciscan Centre, in the Kansenshi suburban area of Ndola, Zambia, during the noon Mass. The Minister Provincial, Friar Ferena LAMBE, received the new novices and entrusted them to their Novice Director, Friar Julius Anthony OHANELE.
