On June 9, 2020, at 8.45 p.m., RAI1 [Italy’s National Public Broadcasting service] will present its annual “Con il Cuore” [With the Heart] concert/telethon in Assisi. This is a charity initiative of the Sacred Convent in Assisi. This year, the conductor is Carlo Conti and the event is being dedicated to Franciscan soup kitchens across Italy and families affected by the pandemic.

This will be the eighteenth edition of the event. It is organized by the “Francesco d’Assisi, un uomo un fratello”, Association [St. Francis of Assisi, a Man, a Brother]. This non-profit organization was founded in 2003 and is based at the Sacred Convent in Assisi. It carries out charitable initiatives and provides assistance to those in need.
The Association has financed many initiatives to date, including the building of a hospital and purchasing and distributing food and medicine for the people of Zambia and Malawi, assisting people in Uganda and Darfur (now South Sudan, the site of numerous conflicts); constructing a school and a medical dispensary for children in Chad; assisting people in Haiti after the terrible earthquake of 2010, in Emila Romagna, Italy, after the earthquake of 2012, in the Philippines after the typhoon of 2013; in Iraq and Jordan (whose conflicts are ongoing); distributing food in schools in Ethiopia, helping the elderly in Columbia, etc.
Finally, one should mention that these financed projects are often entrusted to our Conventual confreres who then carry them out in various places.
