On May 8-10, 2023, the Province of St. Maximilian M. Kolbe in Brazil conducted its Pre-Chapter Assembly. The event took place in the auditorium of the Centro Franciscano de Evangelização e Cultura (CFEC) in Brasilia, Brazil.

The purpose of the assembly was to summarize the activities of the Province, to visualize the problems and difficulties the friars have faced in recent years and to raise proposals to be discussed at the Ordinary Chapter. The Chapter will take place October 16-20, 2023.
In keeping with the guidelines of the Directory for the Celebration of the Provincial Chapter, the Assembly aimed at promoting synodality, respecting the circumstances and opinions of each friar. Furthermore, in keeping with the General Statutes, the Assembly reflected on various topics that will be dealt with at the Ordinary Chapter, prompting debate on certain issues that concern the entire Provincial community.
A Pre-Chapter Assembly can be convened in different ways. In the case of this Assembly, all of the friars were summoned. It was up to the Guardians to consider which friars would represent their friaries, taking into account the cost of travel, accommodations and other expenses.
During the Assembly, some general topics were discussed, namely, the mission in Brazil’s Amazonas State, the St. Bonaventure Institute, fraternal life, financial self-sufficiency and preparing for the election of the Provincial Delegates and the Delegates for the Provincial Delegation of the Northeast.
