On Tuesday, December 3, 2024, the Assisi Snehalaya Charitable Trust conducted a vibrant World AIDS Day celebration, which included an HIV awareness seminar.
The event took place at the Assisi Snehalaya Center in the Thirumalayam Palayam suburb of Coimbatore, India, and was marked by enthusiastic participation and impactful activities. Its purpose was to educate the public on the importance of HIV awareness while fostering a more compassionate and inclusive society.
The program was inaugurated by Krantikumar PADDY, the Coimbatore District Collector [County Administrator]. He stressed the crucial role of community-driven efforts in combating the stigma associated with HIV/AIDS. Johny TOM VARGHESE, Commissioner of the Child Welfare Department in Chennai, India, was the guest of honor and presented awards to individuals and organizations dedicated to the cause.
There were a number of prominent speakers, including Dr. Balu SWAMY, President of the Coimbatore Shanti Ashram, and Mr. K. Sevino, who delivered inspiring speeches encouraging active participation in HIV awareness and support initiatives. A motivational session by renowned writer, radio personality, and public speaker, Joseph ANNAMKUTTY JOSE, left a lasting impression on the audience.
The program also featured an informative awareness class led by Dr. K. MADHAVAN from PSG College [Coimbatore], who highlighted the latest advancements in HIV prevention and treatment. The event began with a warm welcome from Friar Giles VELIYANA, Director of the Assisi Snehalaya Center, and concluded with some words of heartfelt thanks from Friar Michael EARALY, the Minister Provincial of the Province of St. Maximilian M. Kolbe in India.
A remarkable turnout of 1,750 students from various schools and colleges, reflected the younger generation’s commitment to promoting AIDS awareness and empathy. The organizers expressed their sincere gratitude to all the participants and sponsors who contributed to the event’s success.
The celebration served as a powerful reminder of the importance of collective action in eradicating the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS and building a more compassionate society.
