In honor of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Friar Albino VAROTTI, OFM Conv., (1925-2005), the Padre Giambattista MARTINI Music Department of the San Francesco Bologna Workshop is announcing the launch of an international musicology prize. The workshop is a work of the San Francesco Bologna Library located at the Basilica and Friary of San Francesco in Bologna, Italy. The friary is a presence of the Italian Province of St. Anthony of Padua (Northern Italy).

The prize, which is open to scholars of any nationality, involves conducting a musicological research study on the life and work of the respected musician and composer, Friar Albino VAROTTI. The research project must culminate in the presentation of an unpublished monographic study, which will be published in the online magazine “Quaderni di Artes.”
The prize will be paid at the end of the research, after the delivery of the completed work and following its approval by the Judging Committee chaired by Friar Maurizio BAZZONI, Director of the San Francesco Bologna Library. The research will take place over two years. At the end of the first year, the successful candidate will have to submit a progress report. At the end of the second year (no later than July 31, 2025) the candidate will have to submit a final thesis for approval by the Judging Committee.
