On the morning of December 15, 2020, the Provincial Custody of the Immaculate Conception of the B.V.M. in Brazil conducted a Custodial Assembly using video conferencing.

The purpose of the Assembly was to update the Custodial Civil Statutes in order to bring them into line with Brazil’s current regulations, conforming them to the legal requirements for a religious organizations, and fulfilling the requirements for immunity and tax exemption, as required by Brazilian law regarding religious and ecclesiastical groups, in keeping with the agreement made between the Holy See and the Federal Republic of Brazil.
The Assembly began at 9:00 a.m. using the “Google Meet” platform. It was presided over by the Provincial Custos, Friar Ronaldo GOMES DA SILVA, with the presence of almost all the Friars of the Custody.
Lawyer Hugo José SARUBBI CYSNEIROS, legal advisor to the Custody, advised having the Assembly. After the new wording was presented and the friars had time for reflection and debate, the Civil Statutes of the Custody were unanimously approved and deposited with a notary. Having obtained a positive outcome, the Assembly concluded with a final prayer and a blessing by the Custos.
