Following the restructuring of Franciscans International (FI) about eight years ago, the organization’s Board of Directors (IBD) would normally meet in person in Geneva and New York in April and November respectively. This stopped with the COVID-19 outbreak. However, prior to the pandemic, the IBD was already holding bi-monthly, online meetings. Thus, on May 13-15, 2021, the IBD meeting that would have been in-person was instead held, for the third time, via the Zoom platform.

During the meeting, two new members were welcomed onto the Board for their first term: Blair MATHESON of the Third Order, Society of St. Francis (TSSF), and Eduardo JAZO, TOR. Joseph BLAY, OFM Conv., was elected Secretary and Jim DONEGAN, OFM Cap., was elected Vice President. The board shared feedback on the final version of the new Strategic Plan. This document, based on the previous Plan, is the result of a collaborative effort between the IBD and the organization’s staff. Members of the Franciscan family are encouraged to disseminate the Plan, which provides an essential overview of Franciscans International.
Sandra RATJEN, Advocacy Coordinator, gave a brief presentation on her work, while Benedict AYODI, OFM Cap., the newly hired Outreach Officer, outlined his plan of activities. Franciscans International is in good financial condition, however, it still counts on more generous donations from the Franciscan world.
